About the Site
|
Mehfil-e-Mushaira is a non-profit Web site dedicated to Urdu poetry.
It was created on May 25, 1998, launched on xoom.com, and is the first site in the
world to present Urdu poetry from mushairas (poetry readings) on the Web. It
acquired the domain name, mushaira.org, on April 20, 1999.
The site contains audio clips of Urdu poetry recited by poets themselves in
various mushairas held in Pakistan, India, the Middle East, Canada and the
United States. The audio files are in RealAudio format.
Other sections on Mehfil-e-Mushaira include a relatively large collection of our
readers poetry. It's a moderated forum and there is a certain criteria for inclusion
in this section.
Mehfil-e-Mushaira has won many awards. It has been among the Top
10 Sites picked by the Internet magazine Spider (from the publishers
of The Dawn newspaper), featured as a TOPP Pakistani Site on The
Official Pakistan Page, has been featured as Site of the Day
on pakistane.com, included in Webivore Search System, and awarded 2000-2001
Golden Web Award.
