LITERARY SESSION IN THE HONOUR OF LOCAL POET

Bazm-e-Urdu Qatar (BUQ), the oldest Urdu literary organization in Qatar, organized a literary session in the honour of local Indian Urdu poet Iftekhar Raghib at Metrocity restaurant last Thursday night. The session was presided over by Syed Abdul Hye, vice president of Indo-Qatar Urdu Markaz. Syed Fahimuddin, a local Urdu Poet, was the chief guest. Mohammed Mumtaz Rashed, chairman of BUQ, conducted the session which was started by the recitation of some verses of holy Quraan by Abdur Rahim.

Iftekhar Raghib, the guest of honour, has been honoured by Anjuman Taraqqui-e-Urdu Gopalganj Bihar for his contribution to Urdu poetry. He has been also honoured with Jigar Muradabadi Samman by Hindi literary organization Bharatiye Sahitkar Sansad Samastipur Bihar for the Hindi version of his first poetry collection Lafzon Mein Ehsas (Feelings in Words) a couple of months ago.

Amjad Ali Sarwar, president of BUQ, welcomed the guest and congratulated Raghib for receiving honours for his works and wished him all the bests for future. Shaukat Ali Naaz presented brief introduction of Raghib and the organizations who have honoured the poet. Ashfaque Qalaque, Aziz Nabeel and Mohammed Mumtaz Rashed presented their papers on personality and poetry of Raghib. Qazi Abdul Mallik and Saadat Ali Saadat presented a selected Hamd and Ghazal penned by Raghib respectively in their pleasant voice. The other poets who presented poetic tributes to Raghib were Habeeb Hyderabadi, Jamshed Ansari, Ejaz Haider, Shaukat Ali Naaz, Irashad Aazmi, Shad Akolvi, Yusuf Kamal and the chief guest Syed Fahimuddin.

Iftekhar Raghib, the guest of honour, thanked Bazm’s office bearers for their appreciations as well as Anjuman Taraqui-e-Urdu, Gopalganj, Bihar and Bhartiye Sahitkar Sansad, Samastipur Bihar. Syed Fahimuddin congratulated Raghib and appreciated him for his works.

Syed Abdul Hye in his presidential address recalled the time 8 years ago when Raghib was newly introduced to the Urdu literary circle of Qatar and stated he predicted a good poet in Raghib at that time which came true later. He also quoted various selected and popular couplets of Raghib.

Other well known personalities who presented at the session were Suleman Dehlavi, Ibrahim Khan Kamal, Dr Ataur Rahman Nadvi, Mansoor Aazmi, Mirza Hamid Ali, Md Farooque Ahmad, Syed Saifullah, Fakhruddin Chakkiwala, Neyaz Ahsan, Afsar Asmi and Rabbani etc.
